Industrial Uses of Magnesium Hydroxide
Waste Water Treatment – The same neutralizing properties that make Magnesium Hydroxide useful in the health industry also make it a popular alternative in the wastewater treatment industry. With a maximum pH of 10.5 – it is one of the safest options of OH+ chemicals available.
Anaerobic Digester – Acid Neutralizer; pH adjustment for high carbohydrate anaerobic digesters. Both up flow and lagoon systems.
Nutrient removal - Magnesium Hydroxide can supply the necessary Mg+ found in Struvite where an equal molar ratio of NH4MgPO4 can be formed.
Feed Supplement – Source of elemental Mg for animals.
Abrasives – As a binder in grinding wheels.
Chemicals – Elemental Mg source for a variety of chemicals, e.g. Magnesium Sulfate.
Coatings –Pigment extender in paint and varnish.
Fertilizer – Source of essential magnesium for plant nutrition.
Insulation –Light, flexible mats for insulating pipes.
Pharmaceuticals –Special grades of Magnesium Hydroxide, oxide and carbonate are used in antacids, cosmetics, toothpaste and ointments.
Refractory and Ceramics – Basic ingredient in product formulations fort the steel industry.
